Hard Hill Road
Hard Hill Road wines are hand made in small batches to display the subtle majesty of our single vineyard terroir. Low-intervention winemaking techniques, low-fertility soils, brisk winds, and cool ripening conditions all conspire to produce wines of wonderful intensity and balance.
When you get a vintage like this it really must be celebrated, so here is a mix of the two wines I am drinking most at the moment - our 2018 HHR Close-Planted Shiraz and the fresh 2021 Chockstone Rosé.
Dark cherry and violets are the first flavours in a kaleidoscope of characters in this unique wine. This obscure variety piqued my interest after tasting the dense and intense wines of Madiran, France, the home of the Tannat variety.
Focused, intense and complex. Blackberry, plums, dark cherry, with hints of cooking spice and a floral finish.
Aromatic and vibrant, a combination of blackberry, blueberry and floral flavours, medium body, great depth and a long velvety finish.
Pure expression of Great Western minerality and delicate Riesling fruit characters. Wildflowers and citrus, with hints of passionfruit and guava.
Intense blackberry, dark chocolate, black pepper and liquorice, followed by tar, gun smoke and cured meats, with a long and rich finish.
Warm, generous and aromatic. Cassis, blueberries, anise, violets and rose petals; with elegant tannins providing a remarkably long and lively finish.
